Behind the Scenes: Grayburn ADU
We’re renovating our neighbor’s house and adding an ADU. We thought we’d give you a look at what the whole process is like…from start, to finish.
Our latest clients, Jordan and Kristina, also happen to be our neighbors. They have 2 young boys, Lev and Asa. Like many of us today, they sometimes work from home and often host out of town grandparents. Their current 2 bedroom 1 bath house is definitely stretched to the limit.
So they asked us (thanks guys!) if we could help enlarge their house a bit, add a bathroom, and also build a new ADU that could serve as both a guest suite and a home office.
We of course said yes.
Pamela and I thought that it might be interesting to see what that entire process is like.
Meet our latest clients.
The overall process.
If you’ve read our post on The Process of what it’s like to work with us, this diagram should look familiar.
We break up a complex project like designing a new home into smaller, simple to understand, steps. Each has its own dynamic and that’s what we’re hoping to capture on this page.
Please note, there is work that is done before this as we and clients meet to see if we’re a good fit for each other. We talk about overall budget, schedule, and expectations.
We did that with Jordan and Kristina, got the legal stuff (contracts) out of the way, and off we went.

Grow your audience.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
